Today sucked worse than being infested with sand fleas from a 1000 camels from the Arabian Desert.  My wife and I awoke to finding that our garage foor did not close last night as we had assumed.  That is our downfall as it starts.

Last night is one of a very few nights in the past few years that I had made the mistake of leaving my wallet in the car as well.  The only cash they got was a crinkled up 1 dollar bill.  I never carry cash!  I have no credit cards now but meh, the new ones are on the way...thank you lifelock!  (You all see this snowball effect right?)  Well it gets worse trust me.

Also insise my car, I ALWAYS leave my laptop (Macbook Pro MB766*/A), computer field repair kit, network cable test kit, network cable probe and tone kit.

I had also left my Sony DSLR alpha 350 camera with G series 70-300  zoom lens 2 batteries, charger, external flash (they left the mono pod that was attached no prints).  32 GB iTouch and my wife's iPod nano.

We had been on a trip recently and had the stuff in the car, this past weekend I hadn't felt well and since I bottle up the garage I just got lazy and left it in the car.  Soooooo.....now someone else has our stuff.

Bottom line is, police report has been filed and I have the initial purchase prices researched.  I know that the homeowners is going to cover the costs involved, and my items are going to be depreciated.  What realistically should I expect to be able to get in replacement?  I had purchased everything around October /November 08 at the beginning of the end of Circuit City except the Macbook Pro which was purchased direct from Apple.   This may be a better question once I get an answer from my agent, but I'd figure I'd ask my good friends here first.  Wink

There was a post on /. similar to this a while ago.   Student left his laptop in his car while on the last day, someone broke in.    He was able to Trace the Ip because the schmuck went into his Gmail account so he got the IP.   Tried to contact the ISP but they weren't helpful.    Contacted the FBI because it was Cross State lines, and then the Police in the Schmucks town.

I'm not sure if any of this helps.  Because I'm sure you have a login password setup so short of cracking it may be useless to them unless they want to deal with reformatting.

But being the paranoid person I am, I'd keep an eye on the neighbors. More so the Neighbors kids/teenagers.   I'm not sure what the layout of your neighborhood is, but short of being on  main street, you probably have limited traffic going up and down it which would have noticed the door open.  Which would limit the amount of potential suspects.

No.

I don't have the advice you're looking for, but I also want to chime in and say how much that sucks.  :(  I hope it is taken care of without too much hassle.
I'm too cool for a sig again...

You should have told me you had State Farm when you called, you'll be fine after you cough up the deductible.

Wanna buy a used Mac Book Pro? Free Sony camera with it.
